Zombie Evacuation 2012

First, let me say I've no idea what ALL this fuss, talk, movies and crap about Zombies is all about. Not a clue & don't really care either. It's like umm, a new fad. Every body dye your hair pink or every body let's dress like we are living in the 70's, right? But instead it's all about Zombies. I don't get it.

Similar to my feelings about skulls and skeletons on women's clothing! Eww! I mean seriously!!! Why on earth do you want to wear something like that on your body? My personal opinion of course.

There is a website I like that sells some great workout clothing but it has skulls on it! Skulls or skeletons do not = tough. In my mind they = dead. Not exactly the look I'm going for. Fit, toned, in shape, sexy or hot mama - but dead, I don't think so!

However, with all that said - I did sign up like back in May with some of the ladies I work out with to do this silly Zombie run. I've NO idea why I signed up for it. I doubted it when I did it. Then...I completely forgot about it. About 2 weeks before the run, I remembered and I remembered that I signed up for this thing with the Run to the Beat 1/2 Marathon the very next day! Was I nuts?!!! Totally!!!

I nearly talked myself out of going. I have been dealing with a knee injury off & on since Sept. 22nd. It's to the point now that its really just pissing me off. I took 2 weeks off running before the Zombie 5K & the Run to the Beat 1/2 marathon, just to let whatever is going on with it heal some so that I could make it through my weekend runs.

The 3 reasons I did do the Zombie run:
  1. I had already paid for it.
  2. I knew once I got there with everyone else it would indeed be a great time, lots of fun.
  3. The T-shirt. (sad uh? haha)

At the Zombie Evacuation, it was freezing and I was trying to stay warm. I needed a few things from the car so I jogged to keep warm and I knew then that the 5K was gonna hurt a little. I wasn't wrong and the whole time I was running I wasn't worried or thinking about the people dressed up like Zombies and I didn't have to worry about screaming as my friend Maritzza had it covered :)

What was going on in my head? How the hell was I going to survive the Run to the Beat!!! What if I got out there and couldn't even run a mile? Could I walk that fast? My mind was going a million miles an hour because I just had to be able to do it. I can't explain it, but I just couldn't give up on it, even if it meant I had to walk 13.1 miles. As a matter-of-fact I sent my Mom a message to ask her if it was okay to double my Motrin - to which I got a real big fat NO!!! haha I was wishing I had taken Tylenol as well as Motrin with me.

I finished the Zombie run but not without becoming 'infected' haha. Other than being seriously cold it did turn out to be a great time & I'm glad I did it. Would I do it again, even though I don't get all the Zombie hype? Yes, I would.

Here are some pictures from all the fun. I've a great photographer! :)

Before the Evacuation - we were freezing!
It is freaking cold out here!!!
 Getting ready to go...
One of the funniest briefing EVER!
Time to run from a few Zombies.
Running from a crazy clown Zombie - he drove me nuts!
Finally, the clown left me alone long enough that I could get over the wall...
...to the waiting Zombie on the other side - urgh!
I've no idea what I'm doing.
Running through the trails...
...more trails
...hauling some crazy box up & down a hill & it leaked green goo all over my leg.
I FINISHED!!! ...but I got infected :)
All of us after completing the Zombie Evacuation.

So I don't get the hype about the Zombie thing - but some people don't get the hype about Santa either or Jesus for that matter and you know to each their own. I personally enjoy having a good time with my friends in fit and healthy way and if that means running a Zombie infested 5K, dressing up like Santa or running in the name of Jesus...then yeah, I'm probably gonna do it.

For those of you out there thinking, "I don't want to do that!" Because you don't 'get' or 'understand' something, like wearing lingerie over your workout clothes or because there is that 'fear' factor in there that's holding you back, I want you to remember this:

Go with your friends.
Face the fear.
Enjoy the laughter.
Treasure the memories and
Celebrate your accomplishments!
